On a time of workforce shortages, employee retention is critical. How does the ADA benefit a business in employee retention?
Harley D. Engelman, M.B.A, Marketing and Business Relations Director
Let’s face it. In the business world, the bottom-line is the “bottom-line”. You are in business to make money. To accomplish that, you need a workforce that is highly-productive, skilled and loyal. As an employer and business owner, you need to maximize the profit potential of each employee and that means retaining experienced employees.
The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) defines the role and responsibility of an employer when hiring or retaining an employee who may have a disability. The key area of interest for an employer should be the “reasonable accommodation” aspect of the law. Reasonable accommodations that are properly requested and addressed can have a very positive effect on employers’ efforts to retain a valued employee who has developed or incurred a disability.
It is important that a business owner and employer remember five key words when it comes to the ADA and the implementation of reasonable accommodations. They are “Common Sense” and “Good Faith Effort”.
