In the last two issues of BUSINESS WATCH, we took a look at the first two, so let’s take a look at number three.

Misperception 3. Reasonable accommodations made for employees with disabilities are expensive and often costprohibitive. The Reality. The average cost of a reasonable accommodation for an employee with a disability is $200.

What exactly is a reasonable accommodation? The U.S. Department of Justice defines it as “any modification or adjustment to a job or the work environment that will enable a qualified applicant or employee with a disability to participate in the application process or to perform essential job functions.”

In simple terms, a reasonable accommodation allow you, as an employer, to recruit from a highly-qualified workforce and retain highly-productive and dedicated members of your existing workforce who may incur a permanent injury, illness, or impairment.

In these economic times where the recruitment and retention of a skilled and loyal workforce is critical to success, reasonable accommodations represent a positive part of the employers operating strategies.Give us a call to learn more, or if you need assistance with disability-related issues.
