What trends can retailers expect for the 2009 holiday season?
Lisa Koch, Bismarck Tribune Advertising & Sales Marketing Specialst
The National Retail Federation recently released the “2009 Holiday Survival Kit” which contains some very interesting statistics, such as:
- $437.6 billion is projected for 2009 holiday retail sales
- For most retailers, the holiday season represents 25-40% of their annual sales
- 40% of people started holiday shopping last year before Halloween
- 78% of adults 55 and over read a newspaper at least once per week
It’s important to note that newspaper readership is even stronger in our market than the nationwide stats. 89% of adults ages 55 and over in Burleigh and Morton counties are reading the Bismarck Tribune each week.
And although it is true that overall print newspaper readership increases with age, the Bismarck Tribune also reaches 64% of ages 18-34 and 77% of ages 35-54 each week! So put your holiday gift ideas where they will be seen, read and acted upon – in the Bismarck Tribune.
